Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars

This weeks recipe for Tuesdays with Dorie is Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars and it was chosen by Lillian of Confectiona's Realm. I think that the best word to describe these bar cookies is sinful. At this time of year everyone is thinking about watching calories and trying to shed those extra pounds and along comes these rich bars. Oatmeal cookies, fudge, and peanuts (I left out the raisins). Yum. They are good when they are warm but they are even better after they have cooled. My advice is to cut them in very small pieces and enjoy.

I think maybe the best thing about these cookies is how wonderful they smell as they are baking. My husband is a big fan of the movie Michael with John Travolta . Michael is a bad boy angel that comes to earth. Everyone he meets thinks he smells like something different. Some say sugar cookies, some say cake, but it was always something wonderful and comforting. I believe that this may be what Michael would smell like to me. They smell just like walking into a small bakery in our area that I have been going to since I was a child. They have wonderful glazed dougnuts, cookies, and butterflake rolls. You just can't find a place that smells any more heavenly. It just doesn't get any better.

I've never seen Michael, but now I'm going to put it in my Netflix queue. Your bars look amazing. Just looking at them makes me wish I had some left to eat right now.

Wonderful movie. Your bars look perfect, even without the raisins.
