Chipster-Topped Brownies

After a two week absence chocolate returns to the lineup at Tuesdays with Dorie. This weeks recipe is Chipster-Topped Brownies and it was chosen by Beth of Supplicious.

For this recipe Dorie has combined two classic snacks. The bottom layer is a super chocolate fudge brownie and the top is a chocolate chip cookie layer. The two cook up together to form a realy great tasting treat. The cookie layer became a little crispy during cooking. It made the top layer crack slighty when you cut them. This didn't hurt the taste of these brownies at all. They are delicious.

I served these at a cookout this weekend and everyone loved them. The only problem was trying to stay out of the leftovers. Beware make sure you cut these in small pieces. It's hard to eat just one.

Fresh Mango Bread

This weeks Tuesdays with Dorie is Fresh Mango Bread and it was chosen by Kelly of Baking with the Boys.

It took two cups of chopped fruit for this recipe.

I followed the recipe just as it was written only decreasing the ginger to 1 teaspoon.

The bread has a nice texture and made perfect slices.

It tasted even better the next day.

TWD Tartest Lemon Tart

Blending lemons, rind and all to make a filling. I was a little skeptical on how this would taste. Then I thought about Shaker Lemon Pie. You thinly slice lemons and mix with a lot of sugar to make a delicious pie. Maybe I might like this. I used the Sweet Tart Dough with Nuts just as the recipe called for. I love this crust. It is so easy to make and it is really delicious. The lemons and sugar blended together to make a nice velvety mixture. The rest of the tart was very easy to make.

I had to bake the tart about 10 minutes longer than the recipe call for. It baked to a beautiful golden color. I let the tart chill over night before cutting it. The verdict-I really liked this tart. It has a very nice lemon flavor that was quite tart. It did have a very slight bitter taste but I think that was because of my less than perfect lemons. The next time I make this I will be careful to choose the very best lemons I can find.

This weeks recipe was chosen by Babette of Babette Feasts, as usual you can get the recipe over at the website.

TWD Tiramisu Cake

This weeks Tuesdays with Dorie selection was Tiramisu Cake and it was chosen by Megan of My Baking Adventures. I love tiramisu and I was anxious to see how using cake in place of ladyfingers worked. I thought that the cake worked beautifully. It was light and tasty and it soaked in the espresso syrup in very well. I went a little light when brushing the espresso syrup on the cake. I didn't need to worry the cake soaked up the liquid just fine.

The frosting and filling for the cake are made with mascarpone, sugar, whipped cream, and the espresso syrup. I used mini chocolate chips between layers. The flavors blended very nicely and tasted very much like a regular tiramisu. I simply dusted the top of the cake with some cocoa powder.

I served this cake for my daughters birthday along with her usual derby pie. Everyone seemed to like it. I will definitely be making this cake again.
