Cornmeal and dried apples are staples in the southern cooks pantry but I don't believe that before this week I had ever thought of combining them. I trust Dorie but I was very skeptical of how this would turn out. It turned out to be quite nice. Different but nice. The cornmeal made it slightly crumbly and crunchy and the apples made it moist. I enjoyed it as an afternoon snack. I wish that I had some apple butter to spread on but it was fine plain. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you how wonderful it smells baking. Thanks to Caitlin of Engineer Baker for picking this recipe.

I didn't realize that was a southern combination, but it sure was good. I do have some apple butter and I will give that a try with this loaf.
Beautiful bread... and such a cute plate, too! :)
